Experience
I am a 2011 graduate of Southern Connecticut State University where I earned a B.S. Since graduation, I have been employed at the Yale University School of Medicine as a researcher. My work at the moment involves determining what role genetics and the immune system play in autoimmune diseases. Medicine and biology, especially immunology, fascinate me because so much remains to be discovered in these areas. Immunology in particular is a field in which many advances are being made in both human health and the discovery of new drugs. Working in such a growth field means there are many opportunities. Tutoring appeals to me for a number of reasons. More experienced students can be immensely useful to their struggling classmates by teaching them the proper way to approach difficult material. I know this from personal experience. Early in my undergraduate career, I was struggling myself, and some upperclassmen volunteered to tutor me. They were successful in helping me, and I've never forgotten them. Tutoring also helps the tutor because being able to explain a subject means you must understand it thoroughly. Also, it's a good feeling to know you have helped someone else. I love hearing from my students that my tutoring has helped them do better.
